Print Banana

Project Brief

We will begin by researching and producing a set of emblematic designs and
illustrations inspired by a given notional band, whose name has been randomly
generated. Using a variety of analougue printing techniques to process your ideas
you will then produce a series of albums front cover designs.

Band Name - Executive Catastrophe

Album Cover Inspiration

The artwork for Linkin Park’s albums are always beautiful and unique in my opinion but my favourite cover is for LP’s ‘Hybrid Theory’ album which in LP style, is confusing at first but has a deeper meaning as you further depict the art. The cover is of a soldier in battle with the wings of a dragon fly.
As explained by the band, the reason for this is to show that their music consists of hard and soft elements. The battle worn soldier represents their hardcore and heavy style whereas the frail dragon fly wings represent their soft and calm style, combined together to create a hybrid.

The cover for Eminem’s album, Marshall Mathers LP 2, may look simple to the normal audience but what I really like about this cover is that, like the name suggests, it’s a reference to Eminem’s Marshall Mathers LP 1 which also included the picture of Eminem’s old house. However, now its become old and tattered. I think this connects more with his older fans as the album also has a lot of references to MMLP1.

Looking at MV's - Agenda Suicide

The narrative on this video is about a regular office worker who does the same routine everyday and works in a corporate company like a slave. All the workers are portrayed as sheep and towards the end of the video, everything starts to go crazy and the guy commits suicide.

The video consists of a lot of illustrations merged with real life people. The colours are very simple and repetitive to represent the routine of the man. It makes me think about how people are slaves to the corporate business and how it takes over your whole life.

UNIT 4 - S P A C E D

The Brief Spatial solutions are a growing demand/opportunity for the designer/image maker. In response to this; time, interaction, non 2-D and spatial solutions will be the focus of the next 2 projects. This will in turn affect the way you percieve what Graphic Design and Illustration can be. You are asked to conduct individual research for a given theme. My theme choice: Weather Weather and Moods After choosing weather as my theme, I thought about the most obvious and immediate links when someone thinks about weather relating to art and that's of course to do with how weather has this connotation to our moods. For example, the sun or sunny weather is mostly connected with happiness and joy whereas on the other hand, rain is usually linked with sadness and in between is grey clouds, fogs, mists etc which is usually this gloomy or boring feeling that we have.  When it comes to weather and our moods also, this can be split into four parts which are the seasons: Spri...

TED Re-Formatted

Project Brief In this project, we are introduced to the principles of layout and editorial design. I must select a TED Talk video and also a format to create a printed publication. Using the TED Talk transcript of the video and my format, I will need to research and analyse what my format is and create and use imagery alongside my publication. However, the imagery used can't be from the video or the speaker. All formats have limitations or possibilities which I must challenge and find out alongside the choice of type and why the type used within my publication is important in communicating the ideas of the TED Talk. Deliverables:  - An edition of 5 of my printed and bound publications.  - Research evidence of the theoretical and practical considerations of your project.  - Also showing your analysis of these sources and how they have developed your ideas . My Chosen Ted Talk Tim Urban - Inside The Mind of a Master Procrastinator This is one of if not...

We will encounter d ifferent approaches to researching and making work with type . Using physical areas around you as primary research and st udying the type in order to create y our own. Deliverables:  - Glyphs - A1 black and white poster of type specimen.  - Graphic Glossary - Publication with your own cover design. - Photographs of type in the environment.  Type Archives - The Wolpe Exhibition The Wolpe Exhibition celebrates and showcases the work of a designer who works outstandingly with type, Berthold Wolpe. Aside from his amazing body of work, the highlight of the exhibition is the unique typefaces he created in the 1930's which faded from view until now. The collection of his typefaces have now been remastered by Toshi Omagari of The Monotype St...
